The Oracle

Grupa Ee

Established in 2005, based in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Grupa Ee is an independent design collective established in 2005 by Mina Fina, Damjan Ilić and Ivian Kan Mujezinović. Mina Fina and Ivian Kan Mujezinović are responsible for the visual presence of The Oracle. Developing a visual identity for an exhibition that is also a biennial is no easy task. At a time when the tools for graphic work are available to so many, it is easy to create an image, but much harder to coin a graphic philosophy. Their work excels in recalling certain historical influences – the bold aesthetics of Eastern European graphic traditions – think Constructivism, Bauhaus and Yugoslav modernism – with independent publishing and zine culture, as well as the feminist and folk art practices that bring graphic design into a less institutional and a more intimate sphere. Designing the graphics for the Biennale means conveying a sense of the collective public space through the many different mediums used for communication. A public presence that needs to be different from the corporate and comic use of graphics. An identity that reminds of a tradition without the viewer/reader needing to know it in detail while awaking in us a sense of experimentation and boldness that transforms into something we like to see.

A graphic identity can be interpreted as an emotional memory capsule and should become part of the dramaturgy of a particular time – in our case the summer and early autumn of the 36th Ljubljana Biennale of Graphics Arts.
